Joseph E. Lowry, Sr.
Ever since he attended a class on the stock market with his mother at the age of 12, Joe has been a believer in the power of the capital markets. After a successful start as an agent of New York Life Insurance, Joe followed his fierce sense of independence in founding our predecessor firm, The Lowry Group, in 1978.
Joe’s unique ability is Achieving Simplicity® for clients by helping make complex situations clear and relatable.
He loves to travel with his wife, Gladys, hike, and read (especially history). He is also an avid fitness buff. Joe is active in a number of community causes and in his church (see Giving Back).
He received a BS from Brigham Young University in 1974. He is an Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®), Accredited Estate Planner®, Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®), and Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU®).
Active in industry-related organizations, Joe is a member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals (past president/Gainesville, FL, Chapter), National Association of Estate Planning Councils (past president/Gainesville Chapter), the Financial Services Institute, and a Life Member of the Million Dollar Round Table. He is also past president of the Gainesville Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors.

Joe, Jr., grew up observing the family business and at an early age appreciated the long-term relationships his father developed with his clients. While pursuing his bachelor’s degree at Brigham Young University (international politics, 2003), he told Joe, Sr., that he was interested in learning about the business. After graduation, he joined Joe, Sr., and became his formal partner several years later.
A student of history and current events, Joe’s unique ability is to draw from these disciplines to provide context for each client’s unique situations. Seeing how the “big picture” impacts individuals and their families is a big part of Achieving Simplicity® for his clients.
Joe gains his greatest enjoyment is spending time with his wife, Lacy, and three children. As a family, they enjoy traveling, being near the water, and playing games together. Joe is active in numerous community organizations and his church.

I am a Certified Financial Planner™ professional with Lowry Financial Advisors, specializing in building investment portfolios, and helping people plan for the future and simplify their financial lives.
Previously, I was a General Contractor (following my father and grandfather) before branching off to co-found Tipple’s Brews; a craft beer and wine store which became one of the top-rated specialty beer and wine stores in Florida.
I have a degree in Economics from the University of Florida. I purchased my first stock in the 3rd grade and investing has always been a passion of mine. After selling my business, I decided to build a career on this interest, and I joined Lowry Financial Advisors – a firm that has been local since 1978.
I am a father of twins, a former motocross racer, and an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys getting away to the mountains. I enjoy the continuous study of the markets, financial history, and economics – which I use to help my clients.
Beatrice "Bea" Caldwell
Client Relationship Manager
There is a reason that a local industry group once awarded Bea the “Can Do” award. She views challenges as something to overcome rather than as insurmountable obstacles. Bea joined Joe, Sr., in 2000, and the firm’s clients know that her knowledge and assistance come from a sincere desire to help them achieve their goals.
In her role as a client relationship manager, Bea is a focal point for the firm’s operations.
Originally from Miami, Bea and her family have called Gainesville home for many years. She loves to be on the water (not in it) and enjoys motorsports, shooting pool, hiking, and camping with family and friends.
Nicole Cothern, FPQP™, CRC®
Nicole’s energy and desire to learn new things are a great asset to our firm. She joined The Joes® in 2015 after working successfully in various roles for a well-known, local insurance agency. As our planning assistant, she supports the firm by putting her excellent problem-solving skills to work on a daily basis.
In May 2018, Nicole obtained her Financial Paraplanner Qualified Professional™ designation. Individuals who hold the FPQP™designation have completed a course of study encompassing the financial planning process, the five disciplines of financial planning and general financial planning concepts, terminology, and product categories. In November 2021, she obtained her Certified Retirement Counselor® (CRC®) designation to help enhance her knowledge and mastery of the field and better assist in the construction of financial plans for the firm.
In her free time, Nicole enjoys running, spending time with friends, and volunteering. She is also a voracious reader and helps the rest of the office make healthier food choices!
Deborah "Deb" Fleming
As Executive Assistant for the office, Deb’s priorities are to make sure that the inner-workings of the firm are operating smoothly and that our clients have the best experience possible. She gladly assists wherever and whenever necessary to satisfy these priorities and is often the first point of contact. She enjoys engaging with each of our clients and conveys warmth and caring in every interaction, whether in person or over the phone.
