Q: News feels mixed. Is the economy in trouble?

A: We like how Chris Fasciano describes 2025, as a “wall of worry.” Economic fundamentals are definitely weaker in some areas, like employment, but there are other measures that demonstrate economic strength.

This is especially true in corporate earnings, with expectations moving higher for 2026. Investors are also optimistic about looser Federal Reserve interest rate policy, which is usually stimulating to the economy.

It is always important to consider whether your goals have changed in a way that makes investment changes appropriate. Barring that, long-term investment in a diversified portfolio continues to be appropriate for most people.
