As promised, here is our recent “Ask the Joes® & Cale” webinar from last week. We hope you enjoy it. We plan to do these more regularly, so please let us know if you have additional questions that you would like for us to review.

- Gainesville and nearby residents will enjoy Buchholz High School’s production of Hadestown. Millie Lowry will be playing Eurydice on April 26 and May 1 & 3. We are biased, but they are doing a great job.
- One of our favorite recent TV series is back. Andor, a Star Wars show, premiered its second season this week on Disney+. It is a well-written and immersive show, suitable for even the most casual Star Wars viewer. It is certainly the best thing Lucasfilm has produced in quite a while.
- We recently purchased and look forward to reading False Dawn. It reassesses the New Deal and it’s effectiveness in moving past the Great Depression.
- The real problem with egg prices stems from the shift in eating habits during the COVID-19 pandemic. More people started eating at home vs. at restaurants. The supply chain for eggs has two channels: direct-to-consumer and “breaking stock,” with the latter being geared toward restaurants and food service. The rules for each are different, and producers can’t quickly shift. According to this research, these issues, as well as a shift to more humane sources of eggs, are the primary causes of higher egg prices.

Ask the Joes (and Cale) provides more information about your favorite topic- TARIFFS!
1. Why do tariffs increase domestic prices? A helpful explainer by economist Alex Tabarrok.
2. Commonwealth’s Chris Fasciano highlights the problem that investors face during times of market volatility: “Recent market volatility around headlines is another reminder to focus on the long game when it comes to your portfolios. Monday’s decline had the S&P 500 back to levels that were close to the lows for the year. But since then, the market has rallied 6.3 percent. Timing markets is hard if not impossible. Stay diversified and make sure your portfolios are constructed to achieve your long-term goals.”
He shares more here.
3. If you STILL haven’t had enough tariff talk, Chris and Sam Millette discuss them on this 3 minute audio clip.
