We recently returned from Commonwealth’s National Conference. The predominant topic was the impending transfer of assets from Commonwealth’s current custodian, NFS, to LPL. As we near the transition, here are the most important things for you to remember:
- Your relationship with us is not changing. Most of the action is happening behind the scenes.
- In most cases, you will not need to act for your accounts to move to LPL. The negative consent process means accounts will transfer automatically.
- Accounts are scheduled to transfer to LPL on November 14, 2026, but will not be visible at LPL until the following week.
- You will receive new account numbers and may need to provide those new numbers to third parties that use your account information for deposits or withdrawals, such as banks or the Social Security Administration.
- There are no transfer fees associated with moving accounts to LPL.
- You will have access to new technology and tools, including Account View, LPL's investor portal, along with enhanced reporting and digital capabilities. This includes the ability to deposit checks directly into your accounts.

Here are some other things that caught our attention:
- This is a good look at the bond markets, which have been challenged by sticky inflation and concerns about Federal Reserve Policy.
- About 76 million Americans receiving Social Security or Supplemental Security Income will receive a 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment for 2027.
- The Capital Group (the parent of American Funds), published a helpful assessment of the mid-term elections. A key datapoint: “based on Capital Group’s analysis of long-term investment data between 1933 and 2025, the partisan composition of Congress appears to have had almost no impact on returns.”
- Shakespeare’s lengthy list of works has grown a little longer, with scholars definitively deeming Edward III one of his works.
- There is a new film adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sense & Sensibility. We enjoyed it very much.
